Chapter 19

“What happened?” I asked, shocked at the destruction before me. The inside of the cave was charred, a thick layer of soot on everything. In the center was a fire pit that looked like it hadn’t been used in a long time. I inspected the walls and walked around. There was some kind of inscription on one portion. I used my thumb to rub away a small portion of soot. Underneath the soot I found the word ‘escaped’ etched into the stone wall. “Guys check this out.” I said. I continued to rub away at the soot with my forearm. Engraved into the stone, I found this message.

A Resistance Spy, by the name of Cormorant, has escaped our dungeons,

We are trying to recapture her before the location of the base is known to the enemy.

~Commander Nightingale.

      I stumbled back, grabbing at Wolfe. I turned to look at her, and pushed myself away.

      “You! You were the spy! I…I…I remember, I was looking for you! Why? Why was I out here? I don’t know anything else. It’s like there is a wall that is blocking me from remembering. And then…Commander? What’s that about? But wait…there was someone else. Someone close to me…John...Caleb...no, Jacob! Jacob…Sparrow! I remember, sort of, that he was my partner. What happened? Why can’t I remember?” I said, putting a fist to my head.

      “Elsa, calm down,” Wolfe started.

      “No! You were a spy, I don’t know anything else other than you were bad and I was hunting you down. Who sent me to get you? Why you? What is going on?” I said. I took a deep breath, then continued. “You know what? I need to think.” I turned to leave and Wolfe grabbed my shoulder.

      “Elsa, this isn’t what you think.”

      “No, you betrayed me. I’m out of here, I need to sort things out.” I leaped off of the ledge.

      “I’ll see what I can do.” I heard Coal say as I took off. I then remembered that while I had been freaking out, he had stood calmly and quietly while he let Wolfe and I figure things out.

Chapter 5

Chapter 5 We waited until dusk, when the lights were uncertain, to move out. This also let the meat finish drying. Wolfe was the one to come up with the idea to fly by night and walk by day. Just on the off chance of seeing someone walking to another town. Spying a boulder, I sprinted to it. “What are you doing?” Wolfe asked curiously. “Come on, this is the best way to take off.” I said, confused that it wasn’t obvious. “Elsa, wait… I’ve got one more confession. I… I don’t know how to fly.” She blushed, staring at the ground in embarrassment. “That’s alright,” I said brushing the problem aside. “You’re not mad? I thought that you would be screaming at me,” she asked stunned. Weird, she was older and she was going to me for help? “No, I’d figured that you hadn’t flown, when you said that you had to fit in with the humans. Sorry :'( Under Construction

                                 Attention!  Unfortunately, On the Wings of a Nightingale is under construction. I am redoing the plot because of both personal reasons, and I didn't really see it going many places. The 'missing' chapters that are no longer here are not completely gone.
