Chapter 3

Chapter 3
“We heard that you were awake!” two identical blonde boys burst into the room. Both had worried, yet excited looks on their faces, while freckles splattered their face. “We were getting worried when you didn’t wake up on the third day. No just kidding.” They said after seeing the scared expression on my face.

“So, you two must be my heroes” I said sarcastically.

“Well, we did knock you out with a ball,” one said, a little scared.

“But we did make up for it didn’t we?” the other asked timidly

“I’ll be fine,” I said, trying to get that scared look off of their face.

“Great, then can we ask a few questions? Like where did you get those wings? What is with the Eagle emblem on all of your weapons? And most of all what does flying feel like?” They rambled off the questions so fast, I could hardly understand them.

“Wait, back up, what Eagle emblem?” I was so confused.

“The feather on your weapons,” one answered. “You do know who Eagle is, don’t you? The other asked, afraid that I might say no.

“Honestly kids, I have no idea what you are talking about, I don’t even know where I came from.” Both pairs of eyes widened, and two jaws dropped at the last statement.

“I can’t believe we didn’t notice it before,” one said.

“We really should have figured it out before,” The other mumbled.

“You’re Eagle!” They shouted together. The eyes turned into that of a puppy’s and they seemed to worship me.

“What are you two talking about?” I screamed. “I’m no superhero, I need to think. Now if you two would fetch my stuff, I have to go.” Delighted with the idea of helping their idol, the two raced each other down the hall.

“So, you’re leaving,” Wolfe said as she entered the room.

“Yup,” I replied, leaning up against the table.

“Here, I think that you might need this,” Wolfe tossed me a backpack full of light weight camping gear. “You know, those boys seem to idolize you,” she said.

“Yeah, I think that I figured that out when they screamed at the top of their lungs, that I was some superhero, Eagle.”

“Do you even know how to use that bow?” Wolfe asked, a little worried that I might say yes. “I ask because I know of a place that you could perfect your skills.”

“Tell me about this ‘place’ that you speak of,” I said inquiringly.

“It is a long way away and they don’t accept many people. But seeing your circumstance, they may let you in. It is called the Wing corps. And the monks there, specialize in weapons of long distance. Now before we go we have to wait until you’re fully healed…” As she was talking, the twins brought me my weapons and I gathered my stuff.

“Let’s go,” I said interrupting her.

“What? Did you not hear what I just said?” she asked in disbelief that I would disobey directly after she gave an order.

“Fine, although I should tell you that I heal faster than you seem to. See this scar?” I said pointing to the one above my eye. “That was bleeding yesterday,” Wolfe touched it, as if to confirm what I had just said.

“How…?” she whispered.

“Like I said, I heal quickly, now let’s go,” I tried to get the lady moving, but she seemed hesitant to go.

“Wait that is one nasty wound. We should at least wait a couple of days before we start out,” she seemed really sure about this so I agreed.

“Fine four days, that’s all,” I demanded. I was so upset about not getting on the road right away.

“Now,” Wolfe said, “Let me have a look at that wing.” Wolfe had me sit on the edge of the table as she went behind me. “Relax, I’ll try to be gentle,” she said softly. She obviously sensed how tense I was. She undid the big strap on the outside of the sleeve and slid it off. I was finally able to relax my wings and she gasped.

“Is something wrong?” I dared to ask.

“No, no quite the opposite really,” she seemed in awe as she studied my wings. “The wound is almost done bleeding, and is scabbing over in some parts,” she grabbed something from beneath the table, muttering about what bandages to use where. Pulling out two bottles, some bandages, and rag, she looked triumphant at her discovery. “This might sting a little, but it will clean the wound.” Wolfe poured the liquid on my wing and what felt like fire, shot all along the gash.

“Ahg! What in the world is that?” I shouted, gritting my teeth against the pain.

“Sorry, almost done,” The pain subsided as she applied some gel to the wound. “This will keep the bandage from sticking to the wound,” she explained, sensing my confusion. Wrapping the wing, she stretched it carefully, trying to cover the wound from the best angle. “There, all done,” She said satisfyingly. “Now, you’d better get some rest. I’ll bring up dinner soon,” and with that, she left, locking the door behind her.
